Get excited, a new festival is coming to town!!
The inaugural Kingston SE Foreshore Festival is set to take place on Saturday, January 5th 2019 directly in front of Kingston’s iconic lighthouse.
Tom Gardner, president of the organising committee, spoke to the Leader about the basis of what the festival is about and what the Kingston SE Foreshore Festival committee are aiming to achieve.
“We are attempting to add vibrancy to our fantastic town and in particular the grassed area on our beautiful foreshore that is sadly underutilised, by holding a family friendly festival. We are working towards creating a fun and safe atmosphere for all to enjoy, from young to young at heart"
The festival will be aimed at people of all ages, entailing live music performances as well as plenty of other activities for the children.
Headlining the inaugural event is CMC Artist of the year - Adam Brand, a hugely popular and successful country music artist who has been playing sell out shows for 20 years.
“Adam Brand has been great to deal with. He is really excited to come down to a new event and help kick-start it as well,” Tom continued.
Louise Adams who came second in Australia’s X factor will also be playing during the festival, with Tom mentioning that she has a considerable following around the region, drawing a crowd to her performances.
“I saw her play in Robe and she was just fantastic. The TV success has helped her image considerably, she can really sing"
One of Adelaide’s best cover bands; The Happy Leonards will be coming down to play, no doubt finishing the event off in style with everyone on the dance floor!
“Local music royalty Bec Willis will also be coming along as well as popular Mt Gambier artist Jon Peters.”
Tom added that he and the committee believe that the acts they have booked will be a strong line up that people from around the district and beyond will take an interest in, drawing them down to the coast.
The committee comprises of some hard-working members Julie Trenaman, Tracy Brockhoff, Craig Cooper, Tess Armfield, Jeff Pope and Kobus Olivier who are looking to make the festival a big success
The kids entertainment will feature George the Farmer, the hugely popular children’s character originating from Penola.
"To have George come on board is such a positive sign for us that we are onto a winner"
There will also be a two jumping castles, including one that has an obstacle course included inside. A child friendly inflatable bucking bull and 'Jamie and Kims Mobile Petting Zoo' will also add to the variety of entertainment for the children, also including a magic show running throughout the day, face painting and an area for the parents as well.
“We’re really aiming the festival at families and people of all ages, so it is not just for those who are coming for the music, it will be a day for everyone to enjoy.”
The support the event has attracted so far from local individuals, businesses and council has been very positive. Tom approached the Kingston District Council from the outset to gauge their stance on the proposal and has been overwhelmed by the support they have shown throughout the early organising process.
"Without the support of the Kingston District Council, this event would not get off the ground" Tom stated, "From general support to financial assistance, the council has been our biggest help"
Businesses appear to have had a similar stance "All the businesses we have approached to date have been impressed by what we have planned and our sponsors positions are filling up quickly"
"We understand all businesses get attacked for sponsorship and we have been mindful to keep our packages affordable and packed with value. If we haven't contacted you yet, be prepared!!" Tom laughed.
